Ability
Ability, also known as Hero Power Ability (Inner Ability in the retail MapleStory game) are reconfigurable stats which can be changed by using Medal of Honor. It is accessible in the Hero Power window. There are 6 tiers of Ability available for each slot, which are obtainable on a fixed probability chance. While the probability of receiving the tiers are different and depend on the Ability Reconfiguration Level, the stat being increased within that set is random.
The number of ability slots increases by 1 for every Hero Power Stage up to a maximum 6 slots. The higher the number of slots, the more Medal of Honor you need to use.
Presets and reconfiguring
Presets allow you to create sets of ability without overriding them. This allows you to use a different preset for each gameplay, such as one set for Arena and one set for hunting. You can set up to 10 presets. Only the active preset is applied to the character.
When reconfiguring, you can also:
- Prevent certain slots from rerolling, by locking them. This costs additional Medal of Honor.
- Save the current options for that preset, at the cost of 500 Medal of Honor.
- Select preferred options, which will pause the reconfiguration and show a popup if a selected option appears. This allows you to hold the reroll button without accidentally skipping over a preferred option.

Ability Reconfiguration Level
The options that can appear in each slot are determined by the Ability Reconfiguration Level, which can be increased up to Level 20. Increasing this level increases the chance of getting higher tier ability options.

Bug with Maximum Option Value
From November 6th 2025 to December 2nd 2025, an error in the Ability calculation logic was discovered which prevented maximum values from appearing.[1] For example, achieving 40% Damage with range 28% ~ 40% was not possible. This was caused by a "less than" condition being used instead of "less than or equal to".
The issue was discovered internally and fixed via a live patch without prior user notification, and subsequent user inquiries were met with inaccurate responses. Nexon attributed the delayed detection and communication to operational gaps and compensated affected players with all all Medals of Honor used and 2x the Blue Diamonds spent on Medals of Honor and the Ability Passes during the period.
